Testrup Hojskole is an original Danish folk high school – a free academy. The fact that the school is free means that the students' desire to learn can expand freely without being dominated by compulsory pedagogical measures such as marking systems and examination fears. Learning should be based on the pleasure of mastering and knowing something - not on the fear of sanctions.
The school was founded in 1866 and was inspired by one of the most influential Danish cultural figures, the poet and clergyman N.F.S. Grundtvig. It is situated in a village south of Aarhus, the second largest city in Denmark with a population of about 300,000. The school addresses itself to all Danes and foreigners over 18 who wish to get to know themselves - and the world we live in - better.
